Frequently Asked Questions

How does movement impact the brain and nervous system?

Long story, short: movement is a primary driver in creating and reorganizing brain circuitry. Our brain circuitry and nervous system are dynamically changing and adapting at all times: they are never static, which is why there is so much potential for growth and change.

The neuro-sensory-motor foundational circuitry in the brain can have gaps, from mild to severe. These gaps can exist from factors in womb and infant life, adverse life circumstances, chronic stress, trauma or injuries later in life. Because the brain and body are innately wired to recognize and respond to neurodevelopmental movements, we can use them to bridge gaps in development and enhance connectivity in the brain to create more ease and effectiveness in daily life, at any age. If your nervous system is functioning better, you will have more capacity with less effort.

How can music help the nervous system?

Both the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and the Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP) function as applications of the Polyvagal Theory. The SSP acts as an acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to shift the nervous system out of a chronic state of defense and into a state of social engagement. The Rest and Restore Protocol is a clinical-grade listening therapy uses engineered soundscapes to subtly align bodily rhythms—like heart rate and respiration—with the rhythm of the music. This is called entrainment and it helps the nervous system shift out of chronic stress and into a deeply restful, restorative state.

Through the listening, clients experience movement through different physiological states, gently re-tuning the client's autonomic nervous system to be more connected, resilient, and better able to respond to life's challenges.

How long do these therapies take?

Neurosomatic therapy can take a few weeks or months of consistent practice, yet a brief daily or weekly commitment is enough to see significant and life changing results. The therapeutic listening programs are 5 hours each, divided into 30 minute listening sessions. Many people shorten listening sessions to 10-15 minutes to fit into daily routines more easily.
